How evil is Glenn Beck?

Maybe I need Meds, but I'm seriously starting to believe that Glenn Beck is the Anti-Christ.  And that's coming from a staunch agnostic!  Here's why...

You may recall a few posts back, I posted my latest attack on organized religion essentially asking why we should believe lies when they lead to the deaths of children.  OK... to put it more reasonably, I attributed evil to the church, and denied them credit for the [little] good they did.

Now... What amazes me is that is you listen to this clip from Glenn Beck, I'm struck by the fact that this is trying to do away with the ONLY GOOD the church has EVER DONE!  Seriously.  I'll concede that Religion has done some good (still not convinced it couldn't have happened without all the bullshit that comes with religion, but whatever) but pretty much any good that religion does, including all of it's charitable works, would fall under "social justice."  Feed and clothe the homeless, help the poor, etc...

This guy, OTOH, think church should instead EMBRACE only the racism, exclusion, judgement, prejudice, inequality, etc... That even many religious people will admit is problematic!

So here's another "open question" to those who might defend religion: If you do as Beck suggests, and eliminate all that "social justice," is there ANY redeeming quality left?  Should we really allow an institution to exist that makes people superstitious AND evil?  Seriously?  I'd love to hear HIS answer on that!

BTW - I think it should be obvious but... I'm not calling for the elimination of the CHURCH.  Just for people to WAKE THE FUCK UP about Glenn Beck.  He's dangerous.  And he's the one who should really be on meds.

  1. In Beck's defense (and who could have guessed I'd EVER be writing those three words in sequence?), he made it very clear from his multiple remarks on the subject that he has no fucking idea what he's talking about. As usual. We're dealing with a pimp for the most crackpot conspiracy "theories" imaginable, a guy who routinely creates charts that link liberals to Stalin, Mao, Adolph Hitler. "Profoundly ignorant" is a phrase that doesn't even begin to adequately cover Beck. The only reason this is causing such a stir is that he just unwittingly attacked most major religions, one of the sacred cows of conservatism. As long as he's grinding out the same sort of nonsense, but aimed solely at liberals, only the liberal blogosphere ever bats an eye (that big "liberal media" don't care).

And who makes up Beck's audience? My last blog dealt with a way in which creatures who find wisdom in his brand of rot are manufactured. In such a dysfunctional, uneducated culture, they've bred like rats, and now, what would have been a cult of fruit-loops 30 or 40 years ago has become the conservative "mainstream."

  2. "He has no fucking idea what he's talking about."

    LOL

Geez, Classy, with a "defense" like THAT, who need critics?! ROTFLMAO.

However: I agree with you 100% on that point!

And thank you, BTW, for reminding me to, "Never ascribe to malice that which is explained by stupidity."

I'll check you're blog out in a few.

    Thanks for your comment.

  3. I think that Phelps church may be a church that does not believe in social justice. You know the lunatics who protest at soldiers funerals and hold up the overdone "God Hates Fags" signs? So yes I think without social justice religion sucks...Christianity for sure does. A lot of churches do good deeds with bad or dishonest intentions. Think of the Roman Catholic church pretty much enslaving native populations. Yes we will educate you if by educate you mean indoctrinate. They do it even today in the ghettos of all the big cities I have visited. I have seen hundreds of poor black kids living in squalor but going to school in their Catholic school uniforms. Is that good works or brainwashing? Some churches proselytize while reaching out. True Christianity does not have to proselytize...it is know by its works. Jesus says in Mathew 25 that blessed will be those who feed the hungry etc but what is left out quite often is that he also says this.."He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' That is a much bigger responsibility. So church, a Christian church, can claim to be just some building to preach and teach in but if they dont practice social justice they are refusing that comfort to the Lord. They get so wrapped up in their dogma they forget the principle of good works. Once they forget that they are just a bunch of babbling fools and often dangerous and hateful ones also. IMHO

  6. JLarue,

Agreed, 100%. I couldn't have said it better.

    DellDolly,

Actually, I've been convinced for awhile now that Karl Rove is a chump. He's no evil genius. Example: in the final weeks of the 2000 campaign he had Bush campainning in Cali, a state he had NO CHANCE of winning, when Florida was coming down to just a few hundered votes. Not exactly the work of an evil genius. He's a talking-point spewing chump who got lucky, and if the Supreme Court hadn't interfered we wouldn't even be talking about him. He's a scumbag, to be sure, but I think you're giving him too much credit.

But DICK CHENEY?! Now HIM I could grant you! LOL

Thank you both for your comments.
